Why and How to Become A Morning Person

Mornings are my WORST enemy! I love the quiet calm of late night… just me and my laptop.

Hmmm – this made me think – DD wakes at 4.30 and I don’t come fully awake until after 9! I hadn’t thought that I’m teaching her to be lazy – I’ll use these suggestions and hopefully present a better example for her to follow. Thanks!

Okay, here goes, I’ll give it a try! (Holds breath and takes a leap) Keep the useful lists coming. You forgot READ YOUR FAVORITE BLOG IN THE MORNING. Yours is one I look forward to.

I despise mornings. I have done all the above and I still slug through. At night I am alive and probably do the best things for my children- things I know other mom’s get exhausted thinking about- but it is what I can give. If mornings you try your best but still can’t get quite there- I think that is ok. Yes North America is run on early mornings but other cultures are not. My kids may have to adjust to our culture but I also want them to understand there are other ways to live a life and sometimes it goes against cultural norms…
Thus far my eldest who is a morning person like her dad does not mimic my sluggish behaviour. She just laughs and accepts me for still getting up despite it. She sees my strengths elsewhere. I still try my best for them but I believe it is ok to show children that we struggle but still try. Perhaps I am wrong…

I love this post! Mornings are easy for me IF I go to bed early enough, which I try to do the majority of the time.

This is a great topic. I’ll just relate my own story. I was never a morning person, worked graveyards at the hospital etc. When I had kids I was told I’d have to change my ways. I couldn’t. We had four kids, homeschooled and no bedtime set. Although there were bedtime rituals, baths, reading etc. and quiet time. It worked great for our family, but I was always told how bad a mom I was for this. I’m now 54, the kids are grown, and I don’t think our pattern or lifestyle ruined them as I was told so many times. When they finally went to school/college I didn’t have to yell at them to get up as I had done to me. They all were very disciplined to do it on their own. Not one of my kids has a problem with going to work or appointments or ever being late. So my take, do what works for your family, just ensure they are healthy, and getting the right amount of rest/sleep.
One funny thing. Now that I’m older, I can’t ever sleep past 7 am. So, guess my sleep patterns are changed. But I don’t mind, it’s my morning quiet before the two grandkids wake up. I will work on the cleansing glass of water.

I am so glad I found this blog!! Mornings and I have disagreed long before I had kids. My husband, a natural up with the sun kind of guy, never understood. Luckily, he has a schedule where he is gone for a few days then home for a few. I can always put off my late night cravings to sit and read or scrapbook knowing that when he is home I get my late night time. But the other days are still hard for me.

Empty cardboard food boxes! I have organized my medicine cabinet, junk drawer, desk drawer, & am in the midst of my audio visiual cables drawer. Simply cut down the box to size to fit your drawer, cover with contact or wrapping paper if you wish, and watch neatness & organization become a snap! Free. Upcycled. Easy. Love it!

I LOVE this!!! We have been working on remodeling our 107yr old house for the last 4 years, mostly by ourselves. When we could, we reused or repurposed items. I collect lots of old things and love to decorate with them, but love even more when I can find a use too! My husband “rescued” a set of older cupboards(70′s?) out of an old house on some property his boss owned and put them in the office/scrapbook room he made for me in our basement. He made shelves and a counter out of scraps too! The latest thing we’ve done is curtains to hide my storage tubs under my counter. I had been looking for fabric but them my mom & I thought of old 50′s tablecloths! She found some at a 2nd hand/antique store. They were a good price because of spots. We cut them to size and will be hanging them the next time she comes over. I can’t wait!

That’s a good point. I’m definitely mindful of appointments and other people’s time — but I’m embellishing a bit here to prove the point that I need to write my list before I leave — no matter what. 

I really don’t like to leave without doing it because it wastes time in the morning while I reevaluate what needs to be done.  I like to hit the ground running!  Thanks so much for reading this post and commenting!
